Our client, a regional fine-foods manufacturer, has an immediate need for an experienced Shift Supervisor – Manufacturing, to join their winning team in Reading.
Our candidate of choice will oversee the production lines to ensure the production of a high-quality product in a safe and cost-effective way to achieve performance targets. Directs day-to-day production flow including sequencing products and allocating labor resources. Communicates job expectations of production employees and implements, monitors, and appraises job performance. Provides coaching and guidance and implements corrective performance. Initiates, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the overall shift by directing operations, managing labor, driving KPI performance, resolving employee issues, and making day-to-day operational decisions.
- Oversee shift operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production while meeting quality and performance targets.
- Direct production activities, labor utilization, material consumption, and finished goods accuracy.
- Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions to address variances.
- Troubleshoot production and equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain product quality.
- Facilitate effective shift handoffs and communication across departments and leadership.
- Maintain accurate production, inventory, quality, safety, and performance records using company systems.
- Plan and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and resources to meet production objectives.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts through problem solving, waste reduction, and corrective action implementation.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to maintain product consistency, food safety, and operational compliance.
- Monitor KPI performance and drive actions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost control.
- Manage staffing, attendance, scheduling, and time-off administration.
- Develop employees through onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and quarterly development assessments.
- Communicate expectations and hold employees accountable to safety, quality, attendance, and performance standards.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, engagement, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Lead monthly team meetings focused on safety, performance, communication, and development.
- Enforce company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, HACCP, sanitation, food safety, and quality systems.
- Ensure accurate use of ERP and business systems, including production reporting, inventory transactions, and data integrity.
- Support process improvement initiatives and corrective action activities.
- Assist with SOP creation and updates.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and decision-making authority for hourly employees during the assigned shift.
- Exercise authority over production staffing, workflow, scheduling, equipment utilization, workforce management, line performance, quality within production processes, and operational performance.
- Resolve operational issues and employee concerns while maintaining alignment with company policies and production objectives.
- Authority does not extend into product disposition decisions, food safety determinations, regulatory compliance rulings, or quality system requirements, which remain under the Quality Assurance Department.
- Establish a working relationship with Quality Assurance personnel to focus on continuous improvement.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Technical Knowledge.
- Knowledge of SQF, FSMA, HACCP is preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,)
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Time Management and Organization skills.
- Ability to work weekends and overtime as needed.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
- Three years of experience in a food manufacturing environment (Required).
- One to three years’ related experience (Preferred)
