Our client, an innovative, start-up medical device company, whose device, the Chemo Mouthpiece, focuses on the prevention and treatment of a side effect from anti-cancer treatments known as Oral Mucositis, is seeking an experienced Vice President of Business Development to join their winning team in Japan.

 

Our candidate of choice will be a seasoned oncology/biopharma/device executive experienced in all facets of Business Development. This position will be focused on, but not limited to the introduction of our company and product to prospective industry partners, National Comprehensive Cancer Centers and large hospital institutions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of strategic initiatives in line with the corporate business objectives
  • Formulate initiatives as it pertains to all aspects of business development including but not limited to, licensing and co-promotion with partners as well as introductions and growth of the CMP™ adoption at large institutional cancer centers and clinics
  • Introduce the CMP™ and build strategic partnerships with prospective pharmaceutical and device companies
  • Identify Pharma companies that market or intend to market chemotherapeutic products that cause OM
  • Become an expert in the supportive care marketplace, specifically OM and the competitive landscape
  • Represent the company at industry events, webinars, and trade shows to generate additional interest in strategic partnerships and growth areas for the company
  • Partner with our Clinical, Sales and Marketing teams on solution-market fit and user feedback
  • Interact and assist with Key Opinion Leaders in the OM space to build brand awareness as needed for partnering initiatives
  • Build and manage a sales funnel of customers/prospects through creative demand generation efforts targeting to C-Level and leadership
  • Direct and support partnering activities, including preparing pitch decks, virtual data rooms, term sheets, and other materials as needed to support negotiations and diligence activities
  • Lead customer demos and presentations both in-person and virtually
  • Develop specific revenue plans with Chemo Mouthpiece, LLC C-Level team with the focus on the targeted potential partnerships and large institutions
  • Drive revenue and customer acquisition performance by identifying customer needs, building business plans, and leading negotiation efforts with identified targets
  • Lead technical and commercial due diligence of potential deals to enable high quality decision making
  • Work with the CCO, legal, finance and other departments and lead the deal process, including structuring deals, negotiating with potential partners and managing processes
  • Conduct complex scenario planning to proactively provide analysis and recommendations on alternative plans, along with the associated assumptions and risk assessments
  • Managing the complete end to end BD process through engagement of appropriate resources
  • Build market awareness and create new sales, successfully positioning the company’s strategy, vision, and market leadership with key business executives and functional decision-makers in all customers and prospects
  • Collaborate with the Chief Commercial Officer to manage and prioritize the communication and assessment of inbound BD opportunities and outbound BD interactions

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Oncology experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual – Japanese & English
  • Oncology experience
  • Sales experience with new medical device and or pharma
  • Management experience small team
  • Willing and able to travel Asia frequently, USA several times a year – must
  • Startup experience
  • Global thinker
  • Will introduce company to pharma, oncology, biotech, medical device manufacturers
  • Interact, promote and build/enhance relationships w big-pharma
  • Associated experience in the Pharma, Device or Biotech Business Development
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, science or related field
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive career experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry required
