Our client, a nationwide sheet metal manufacturer and distributor, has an immediate need for an experienced Tool Maker, to join our winning team in Closter.
Our candidate of choice will be responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining precision tools such as dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. You will have hands-on experience with manual lathe, milling, drill and grinding machines, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. We need a professional that can determine project specifications, set up and operate machine tools, and maintain/test stamping dies to ensure quality standards are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD files, and models to fabricate tools and components.
- Set up and operate machines (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders).
- Assemble and fit parts to close tolerances using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain, repair, and modify existing tools and fixtures as needed.
- Perform heat treating and surface finishing when required.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production staff to ensure tooling meets design and performance specifications.
- Maintain detailed records of tool fabrication, repairs, and modifications.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure the cleanliness and organization of the tool room.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Problem-Solving – potential problems before they happen and troubleshoot tools and equipment daily.
- Communication – give written and verbal reports frequently
- Mathematical ability – working knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra
- Teamwork – work with engineers, mechanics, operators, and machinists
- Autonomy – work independently with little supervision to complete their daily tasks
- Metallurgic basic work knowledge with a vast variety of metals properties
- Experience – 3 to 5 years of experience in tool and die making.
- Completion of apprenticeship program or trade school diploma program
- Five plus years of experience in tool and die making.
- Bilingual- Spanish
